Setting the Stage: City of Anywhere, Germany in the early 1940s, a new disease begins spreading throughout war-torn Europe. With the looming shadow of the Third Reich ever-present and an entire world filled with war, what would you do when a new enemy comes forth?
It all began with one big bang. Europe exploded into war, with allies at the ready. Where one war ended, another emerged, blanketing the continent with blood. As the fighting ran more rampant and the bloodshed moved closer and closer into the larger cities, the civilians of Germany began to disperse out into the countryside. With a new, suburban life, they began happier lives while trying to put the War to the back of their minds. However, that is no easy task for such a broken world. In the midst of the chaos, a small village gets a new visitor...
Some say they spotted trouble right away; others, however, were blind to the sick man that found refuge in their tiny slice of unharmed haven. The doctors were baffled, a new type of common cold had been carried into their village. It was something they thought they could treat, he was told he'd be fine. The man, now dubbed Patient Zero, was anything but fine. It began as a sniffle, then a cough. Fatigue and nausea followed two weeks after he showed up. He said he'd been at the front lines, a man who'd abandoned the cause and burned his uniform - claimed he'd seen too much. There were no more details from Patient Zero after that. Only four days after the fatigue and nausea came confusion, hysteric fits, and rage.
Within 24 hours, all hell broke loose. A well respected doctor began showing the same symptoms after Patient Zero attacked him. Zero fled the scene, a hideous transformation overcoming him. The village was devastated, and the man escaped. Towns over heard the rumors, though none were seeing any symptoms. They knew that before long, an apocalypse would be on their hands, one much bigger and scarier than the world around them.
